I can't even begin to express how AWESOMELY HUGE this is for me. I am no web designer, and so the fact that I pulled this off with little help from the pros is nothing short of a miracle.

I am so proud of my new little baby. And really hope you love her as much as I do :)

Glittery Sunshine Adventure

As the last remaining minutes of 2011 tick away, I find myself in a constant state of reflection.

So many of my friends had "big" years filled with "big" and new things. As for me? Not so much. It was a beautiful year filled with new experiences and wonderful memories.... however, I wouldn't call it "big." But does it have to be...? I think not.

If I had to choose one thing that sticks out in my mind from the last year, it was realizing the importance of keeping my passion alive. My soul is weary at this year's end, and needs to be rejuvenated with fresh ideas and challenges. I fear I became too comfortable in where I was... and any artist will tell you that "comfortable" is the worst place for your soul to dwell.

SO! This is what I have to say to 2012:

Dear 2012,

I hope your journey to the here and now has been kind to you. You have very little left to travel, and I can't wait to meet you. I just wanted to inform you that you, my friend, have a very important task at hand. You may not be aware, but you carry my soul in your hands. I need you to take good care of her: feed her, exercise her, encourage her strive to be better EVERY DAY, push her to challenge herself regularly, never allow her to take a single breath for granted, tell her she is beautiful no matter what, and NEVER (under ANY circumstances) allow her to settle into the "comfort zone." I trust you.

Needless to say, I wanted to end this year with a breath of sunshine (and glitter) for my soul.

Sooooooooo.... my friends (who happen to be stunningly GORGEOUS) and I hiked a mountain in search of sunlight and inspiration.

We found it.

Meet Lindsey Gomes.

She is a fellow photographer and creative...

as well as (I think it's safe to say) a newly acquired best friend.

And most of you already know Quin. Her face has graced the pages of my blog many a time.

She and I have been best friends for what seems like a million years, but is probably closer to 18.

Quin stole my camera a few times to snap some shots of me (and my sweet new hat!)

I was highly impressed with her photo skills. And I got to mess around with some new editing techniques, which is always fun times :)

I cannot express how much I love these next two images.

This last weekend I had the joy of driving up to San Francisco for a change of scenery and to meet this fantabulous couple for a picture-escapade. We had the best of times exploring the aquarium and rainforest (complete with humidity and temperature control!) exhibits at the Academy of Science, hunting down trolley cars, and chasing the light with their two precious pups, Lily and Toro.

Dan and Tammy are not only beautiful to look at, but wonderful to spend time with. I already can't wait to have more picture time with them come their wedding in June :)

One year ago today, I had the pleasure of meeting Scott and Ashley.

Scott was dressed as a rockstar and Ashley was his groupie.

I had such a blast with these two - fending off vagabonds and chasing sunlight on the hilltops (let the record show that Ashley RAN up Madonna Mountain in those shoes). And I definitely can't wait for their wedding in August :)

Say hello to the coolest of all cats -- Nicole and her two kids, Lyla Wing and Riley Jai.

Nicole has been a friend of mine since the 4th wedding I ever shot, where she was the florist... which is just one of her many hats. She also has mad photographer and hair&makeup skills. She is one of the most beautiful and passionate souls I've had the pleasure of encountering. So when she told me about her "Dr. Seuss-like" vision for her family photos, I was pretty darn stoked.

Project Heartbeat (entry #1)

Quite some time ago, a fellow photographer that I look up to challenged me to ask myself a question -- Why? Why am I a photographer? Why do I do this, love this? -- and to write down my answer. Needless to say, I set that challenge on the back burner. But better late than never, right?

This evening, I was on my way home from a photo session on the beach. It was about 15 minutes to sunset, and this inner-monologue was going through my head:

Care-free/La-De-Da Me: "Why aren't you staying to watch the sunset?"

Rushing/Busy Me: "Because I have to get home and upload these photos."

Care-free Me: "But you ADORE the beach. You LOVE sunsets. Pull this car over. Now."

So I did.

As I stood with my pants rolled up, toes sunk in the sand beneath the water, I beheld something beautiful. Something I haven't taken the time to watch in a while. Something I used to consider (one of) God's personal love letters to me. The sunset. And my heart stood still.

^ That ^ inspired this:

Why am I a photographer?

Because I am, and forever want to be, inspired by everything.

Because I long to see the beauty in everything.

Because I have the ability to behold those things that inspire me, capture them, and keep them forever.

Because I have the super-power to make time stand still with the open&close of a shutter.

Because life is short. fleeting. fading away.... and I don't want to miss a single moment of it.

Because it is what I was created to do. to be.

And ^that^ inspired this:

Project Heartbeat

I vow to stop whenever an opportunity for my heart to stand still arises.

to never be too busy to feel inspired.

I have a new addiction. Apparently it's a popular addiction? But it's new to me.

Recently I've been struggling with challenging myself to be inspired. I've gotten used to the daily grind, and submit to it's boring-ness every day. I've been craving something GOOD. something MORE. something INSPIRING.

I've finally found somewhere to collect and store my trinkets of inspiration.

This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship and (what I deem to be) a healthy addition.

I can't believe it was less than 2 months ago that I was taking photos of this little guy when he was still snuggled away inside Mommy's womb (which you can see here).

Kyle and Emily invited me into their home to capture these precious beginning moments of their new life with Max. Despite the fact that Max didn't really prefer being left alone on a blanket to have his photo taken, we were able to capture some very real and beautiful moments :)

Then we headed over to Emily's grandmother's house to snap some photos of the whole family.

This beautiful woman started a beautiful family, and now she has a brand new great-grandson.

Isn't the thing called FAMILY beautiful??

Goodness, aren't they just so perfect?!? And adorable!? And beautiful!? And creative!?

Every single detail at this wedding was DIY - blood, sweat, and tears (literally - Grandpa cut the top of his thumb off with a table saw making their wooden wedding signs) were poured into their spectacular wedding day. Just looking through their photos makes my heart smile.

Matt + Kiersten

I am so stoked beyond words about these photos right now.

There are few better combinations in this world than a cute, goofy couple in love in beautiful light.

Matt and Kiersten are one of the most adorable, goofiest couples I've had the honor of shooting. They light up when they look at each other, and most often times also burst out laughing (so you can imagine the amount of laughter that occurred during our session). A little taste of their personalities can be taken from this next photo: their classic "Blowfish Kiss".

One of my favorite moments from their session was towards the end, when Kiersten looked at me and said "This makes it feel real! Even more than getting my dress!"

I love that they were able to really leave the world behind and just focus on each other for those couple hours. Every single captured photo from that day screams how head over heels they are for each other, so I'm glad that the fact they are getting married became a little more alive to them :)

Ray + Monica [Arroyo Grande, CA]

It was the most perfectest of days at The Cypress Ridge Pavilion last weekend, and has made a lasting impression in my memory and life.

Not only did Ray's expression when he first caught sight of Monica walking down the aisle make top 3 in my personal collection of moments... but I have a brand new tragic memory/circumstance to add to the record: On our golf cart drive down the road, Monica's dress caught in the tire.... and tore a painful foot long rip down her train. 1st - panic. 2nd - the McGyver mindset kicked in. 3rd - Emily (my assistant) takes off on a mission for safety pins. 4th - dress is as good as new... with some pretty metal accents :) In such a moment, you can only imagine the terror that was wrecking Monica's heart and mind... but she was a trooper, brushed it off, looked at Ray, and from the expressions shared between them, you wouldn't never know it had happened.

Oh. My. Gosh.

Where to begin with these two.

My mind is filled with words like sweet, darling, precious, beautiful, adorable, HEAD OVER HEELS in love.... and things of the like.

Alex and Emeline got married overlooking the cliffs of Fort Bragg, and you couldn't have asked for a better day, a more spectacular view, or happier people.

Emeline has taken the cake (or "Pie", rather) for the most care-free of brides. Not only was she traipsing through the hills and sand like a forrest maiden, or riding a bike in her wedding dress.... but when Alex smashed the very RED and stainable pie in her face and down her gown, she made a silly face, laughed it off and said "This pie is DELICIOUS!"

These two were a photographer's dream. They were excited about their photos, and didn't want to stop until I wanted to stop (which I warned them, would be never). So we were able to capture the most precious moments in some of the beautiful light I have ever beheld.

Ok. Enough said.

Travis spent the last 6 months deep under the sea on a U-Boat, far away from the love of his life. He finally got to come home a few weeks ago, and we were just able to squeeze in their engagement session. I was so excited when he suggested wearing his uniform, so that we could capture this very special time in their lives.

The redheaded beauty is Gizella, one of my many mom-teachers from middle and high school. She taught me everything from CPR to ettiquette to stop-drop-&roll to the Richter Scale. She's definitely in my top 3 favorite teachers of all time, so I was so excited when she asked me to snap some photos of their little trio. This was their 1st annual Sistas get-together, with many more splendid years to go.

I see a lot of love in this business, but the sparks that ignite in the eyes of the love-struck never get old. And throughout the entirety of Brad and Daun's wedding day, the sparks turned to fireworks and illuminated all of San Francisco with the power of their love.
